What is acetate?
Acetate is a general term that defines any plastic film or sheet which comes from a material called cellulose acetate. It is produced from natural sources like cotton or wood chips, which not only makes it natural and hypoallergenic. Because acetate is a source of polymer, it is commonly used in the production of glasses frames.
What does “add power” mean in a glasses prescription?
“Add”, in a glasses prescription, stands for “Near Addition”. It indicates the additional refractive power that needs to be added to your glasses’ lenses to achieve the ideal near power.
What is blue light?
Blue light is a range of the visible light spectrum, defined as having a wavelength between 400 and 525 nm. Sunlight is the main source of blue light, and during daylight hours, it’s beneficial because it boosts attention, reaction times, and mood. However, it seems to be pretty disruptive at night. It contributes to digital eye strain and may increase the risk of macular degeneration. Blue light glasses helps blocking a portion of the blue light and is a popular choice among people who spend a lot of time in front of a screen.
What is a cataract?
A cataract is the clouding of the lens of the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. It’s formed when proteins in your eye’s lens build up. This keeps light from passing through clearly. It can cause you to see things blurry, hazy, or less colourful.
What is the cornea of the eye?
The cornea is the transparent part of the eye that covers the front portion of the eye. It directs light rays into the eye and helps focus them on the light-sensitive retina at the back of the eye, providing sharp, clear vision.
What is a diopter?
A diopter is a unit of measurement for lens power. It's commonly applied to reader-strength eyeglasses or bifocals, as well as telescopes & other magnifying lenses.
What is eyestrain?
Eyestrain, also known as asthenopia, is a sensation of discomfort produced in the eyes by their excessive or improper use. It feels as if your eyes are tired, sore, or achy.
What is farsightedness?
Farsightedness is a vision condition where you can see objects clearly that are far from you but where you struggle to see close up objects since your vision blurs.
What is a felt pouch?
It is an eyeglass case made out of felt that is used to store glasses. When you buy your glasses from us, a free felt case is included for each pair in the shipment, whether you buy a pair of readers or sunreaders with lens strength.
What is an eyeglass frame?
An eyeglass frame is what holds the glasses’ lenses in front of a person’s eyes, typically utilizing a bridge over the nose and hinged arms (known as temples) that rest over the ears.

What is Hypermetropia?

What is the difference between Hypermetropia and Presbyopia?
People of any age, including babies, can be hypermetropic. Presbyopia, on the contrary, is an age-related eye condition only.
What is the difference between Hypermetropia and Farsightedness?
There is no difference between Hypermetropia and Farsightedness. It is just another name for it.
What is an iris?
The iris is the colored tissue at the front of the eye that contains the pupil in the center. It helps control the size of the pupil to let more or less light into the eye.
What is Keratoconus?
Keratoconus is an eye disease that results in loss of vision. It progressively affects the structure of the cornea thinning and changing the shape of if.
What are eyeglass lenses?
Eyeglasses lenses are pieces of glass or other transparent materials - such as hard plastic - with curved sides that concentrate or disperse light rays. They’re used to correct or improve vision.
What is Macular degeneration?
Macular degeneration (AMD) is an eye disease that affects the macula, the small central portion of your retina. It causes blurred or reduced central vision.
What is nearsightedness?
Nearsightedness is a vision condition where you can see objects clearly that are close to you but where you struggle to see objects that are farther away since your vision blurs.
What is the difference with Myopia?
There is no difference between Nearsightedness and Myopia. It is just another name for it.
What are nose pads?
Nose pads are the two little PCV or silicone pads that are either clip-on or are screwed into the metal of the glasses nose pad arm. Securing and balancing the weight of the glasses, they keep glasses from slipping off the nose.
Who is an optometrist?
An optometrist is a health professional who specializes in eye health care. They can examine patients, diagnose any problems in vision, and prescribe corrective lenses for them.
What does “Plano” mean in the eyewear industry?
"Plano" (Pl) means non-prescription lenses. They can be used when one or both eyes do not require correction of a refractive error or when someone just wants to wear spectacles but they do not actually need them.
Presbyopia
The age-related loss of elasticity within the lens of the eye. This means the lens becomes more stiff making it more difficult to focus on close-up objects (See Farsightedness)
What is a pupil?
A pupil is the black center of the eye that allows light to strike the retina. It is controlled by the iris (see Iris), the colored part of the eye.
Are reading glasses solely used for reading?
Reading glasses are primarily for reading text in a book, on your phone, tablet, or your computer. However, reading glasses from Luxreaders are not just for reading, they’re about enhancing your look and making you feel great.
Are reading glasses bad for your eyes?
No. Reading glasses are not bad for your eyes. Reading glasses reduce eye fatigue and headaches for people who need them. Reading glasses are beneficial for your eyes and you’ll notice the difference! They assist your vision by altering the rays that are absorbed into your spectrum, but they don’t physically change the structure of the eye permanently.
Can I wear reading glasses all the time?
Yes! Reading glasses can be worn at all times. As long as your eyes are comfortable. Reading glasses can help you with presbyopia, the age-related loss of ability to focus on text messages on a smartphone, tablet, or words in a book.
Can reading glasses reduce headaches?

Can reading glasses be used to watch TV?
No, reading glasses don't help if you are struggling to watch TV. Readers are used to reading smaller texts where you are looking at something up close. When you watch TV you sit too far away for reading glasses to have a physical effect. However, if you're watching on your laptop with subtitles then they may come in handy. If you find the TV blurry, then glasses for distance may be the solution, as you might be suffering from myopia.

The retina is a thin layer of tissue that covers the back two-thirds of the eyeball. It is an essential part of the eye that enables vision. It contains light-sensitive and nerve cells that receive and organise all the visual information sent to the brain.

What is a single-vision lens?
A single-vision lens is a type of glasses lens that only offer a kind of vision correction. This means it can help nearsighted or farsighted people, but never both (in that case, people should use bifocal lenses)

The “Styleguide is an app integrated into Luxreaders’ website that helps potential customers to narrow down their glasses frame options. Sunreaders function like ordinary reading glasses - just with tinted glass. They are perfect for when you are on holiday in the sun and would like to read a good book, whilst basking in the sun on the beach.

What is TR-90?
TR-90 is the material we use for our “Rubber” collection and it is a polymer that combines a variety of excellent properties. It is incredibly durable, flexible, and lightweight. For all these reasons, the glasses from our “Rubber” collection are extremely comfortable.
What are tortoiseshell glasses?
Tortoiseshell glasses are glasses’ frames that mimic the shells of tortoises. They have a pattern that has amber, honey, and brown spots. They are considered an amazing feature that never goes out of style since they are universally flattering on all hair and skin colors.
What is UV light?
Ultraviolet rays are harmful bursts of radiation from the sun that vary in lethalities such as sunburn, wrinkles, and even cancer. However, it is often overlooked that UV rays can have detrimental effects on our eyesight by damaging the surface of the cornea through cataracts or macular degeneration. Fortunately, this damage can be avoided by wearing glasses that have the right UV protection, and for European summers UV400 is ideal to protect your eyes!
